Tim: (spots the cakes, excited) Look! Lee! Lee look! Has this lot been offered yet? Is this supposed to be for later?
Lee: How old are you? Seven?
Tim: Sorry, did I- (laughs)
Lee: They’re just cakes! (imitating Tim) Lee! Lee! Look! Look! Cake! There’s cake look! Cake!
(after Tim gets permission to eat them)

Lee: The expression I don’t understand is “you can’t have your cake and eat it”… because what does that mean? What else are you supposed to do with it?
Tim: You know what the phrase actually is, “you can’t have your cake and eat it too”. That’s what the actual phrase is, people have shortened it… You can’t hold it and eat it.
Lee: (eats his cake) Easy!
Tim: That’s not all the cake is it?
Lee: Give me a minute. You can’t have your cake and hold it and eat it?
Tim: You can’t have all your cake and eat it.
Lee: You can’t have your cake and eat it too?
Tim: Well, you can’t have a whole piece of cake or eat a whole piece of cake.
Lee: Hang on. If you say “you can’t have your cake and eat it too”, that means you can’t have your cake and eat- course you can. That’s what everyone does. They have their cake and they eat it too. I’ve got me cake and now I’m eating it.
Tim: No. No.
Lee: What the should say is “you can’t eat your cake and have it”
Tim: No. “You can’t eat it and not eat it” is what you should say. It’s like saying you’re allowed one piece-
Lee: The expression should be “you can’t eat your cake and still have it at the end - it’ll be in your stomach”…..It doesn’t roll off the tongue.
Lee: But that’s what they should say… if you eat your cake you won’t still have it so make your choice. What d’ya want?
Tim: Shut up!
